A greenery-filled intimate wedding at the Tinsmith, celebrating queer love in style

A Modern Greenhouse Wedding at the Tinsmith, Madison, WI

The Tinsmith, an industrial warehouse-style event space located less than a mile Northeast of Downtown Madison, is an urban wedding venue in a league of its own.

Last spring, our team designed at this dream venue, a Madison-original Trachte brothers building transformed into an urban event space. Built in 1925, the Tinsmith features 23-foot ceilings, modern amenities, industrial charm, and three unique spaces — a ceremony hall, reception space, and a four-season solarium. Every corner of this historic building offers an opportunity for couples to personalize their day to make it their own.

Pulling inspiration from the venue’s four-season solarium, we knew we wanted to curate a modern, botanical-inspired, upscale feel that blended seamlessly with the space. Throughout the ceremony and reception designs, we leaned into layering greens and textures to create a refined and classy experience.

For our ceremony design at the Tinsmith, we worked to balance color and texture to create an atmosphere that blended in with its surroundings yet was a focal point of the space. The ceremony consisted of chic, translucent ghost chairs from Event Essentials and a lush botanical installation from Daffodil*Parker hanging from the trusses at the venue. The solarium includes its own inventory of plants that provide a backdrop that all together creates a luxe oasis in the middle of the city.

For the reception, we leaned into the botanical oasis vibe with farm tables, black-rimmed glass chargers and heirloom gray dinnerware, two-toned flatware, and modern glassware, paired with the minimalist acrylic chairs from Event Essentials. Each place setting received botanical moss-patterned napkins from BBJ La Tavola and layered paper menus from Fest Paper to bring in green tones, texture, and a level of sophistication. We worked with Daffodil*Parker to carry the luxe, botanical vibe onto the tablescape, featuring sage green taper candles, pleated smoke glass tealight candles, and textured arrangements. Springfield tulips and hellebore were added to the floral installation above, delicately intertwining and descending toward the tablescape.

With couples investing in providing elevated dining experiences, we leaned into the growing sheet cake trend and placed a long, textural cake from The Baked Lab in the center of the head table. Coupe glasses with Labouré-Gontard Brut Crémant de Bourgogne awaited each guest at their table, adding a touch of elegance. Inspired by the large industrial windows, concrete walls, and indoor plants in the venue’s solarium, this is one of our favorite designs to date. Leaning into texture and shades of green in this upscale, urban Wisconsin wedding venue – incorporating lush florals, industrial character, and classy vibes – this Tinsmith design was an absolute dream for us.
